When the source of bleeding is below the duodenojejunal fexure it is called lower gastrointestinal tract bleeding.The bleeding may be fresh, altered or occult. It can be devided into 3 groups<\/p>\n
1. Patients with minor bleeding (OCCULT ):-It is that which is detected by routine chemical tests of the stool. About 10 ml blood loss per day is necessary to have stool occult blood test positive<\/p>\n
2.Patients with slow bleeding (MODERATE) This patient may become anaemic<\/p>\n
3.Patients with rapid bleeding (SEVERE) This patient may re:-quire blood transfusion<\/p>\n
CAUSES:-<\/p>\n
Causes may be divided into two main groups- local causes and general causes.<\/p>\n
LOCAL CAUSES:-<\/p>\n
Haemorrhoids<\/p>\n
anal fissure<\/p>\n
ulceration<\/p>\n
fistula in ano<\/p>\n
cancer<\/p>\n
ruptured perianal haematoma(thrombosed pile)<\/p>\n
ruptured anorectal abscess<\/p>\n
injury<\/p>\n
various types of polyps<\/p>\n
GENERAL CAUSES:-<\/p>\n
Liver failure<\/p>\n
renal failure<\/p>\n
blood dyscrasias<\/p>\n
some drugs<\/p>\n
DIAGNOSIS:-<\/p>\n
Abdominal and rectal examination by a qualified doctor is mandatory, which may require<\/p>\n
rectal and digital examination<\/p>\n
proctoscopy<\/p>\n
sigmoidoscopy<\/p>\n
colonoscopy<\/p>\n
TREATMENT:-<\/p>\n
